摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an image read method that can attain excellent image reading that is not affected by dispersion in the transmissivity of original platen glass in cases where a reference white board and the original platen glass are designed to be separate units. SOLUTION: A line CCD 111 reads an image of an original on the original platen glass 102 exposed by a light source 104 exposing the image of the original and an analog signal processing circuit 112 adjusts a level of an output signal from the line CCD 111. A shading correction circuit 114 corrects shading by controlling a luminous quantity of the light source 104 and a level adjustment quantity by the analog signal processing circuit 112 on the basis of the output signal obtained by reading a bar-coded white board 103 whose chromaticity is measured and to which a bar code representing the chromaticity is attached with the line CCD 111 and the chromaticity represented by the bar code. An operation/display section 140 enters a value to correct the transmissivity of the original platen glass and the circuit 114 corrects the shading on the basis of the entered transmissivity correction value.
