PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary magnetic head which is highly durable and capable of stably recording and/or reproducing signal for a long time. SOLUTION: The magnetic head for performing recording and/or reproducing on a tape magnetic recording medium is provided with head main parts 6 and 7 having magnetic head elements, and magnetic head auxiliary members 9 disposed in both sides of the sliding surfaces of the head main parts 6 and 7 with the tape magnetic recording medium at least in a width direction. The hardness of each magnetic head auxiliary member 9 is set in the range of >=-5 Gpa to <0 Gpa in Knoop hardness with the minimum hardness of the head main parts 6 and 7 as a reference.
