PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control circuit and method capable of extending the operation range of digitally sampled control loops of a generator without using any expensive or high performance digital components. SOLUTION: A programmable output 24 of a generator 22 including an output level having a corresponding set point is controlled. A driving input 31 of the generator 22 is driven to an actual drive point for controlling the output level of the programmable output 24. Then, a set point corresponding to a requested output level is determined, and a predicted drive point is determined. The actual drive point of the drive input 31 of the generator 22 is forced to the predicted drive point. Then, the output level of the programmable output 24 is sensed. A digital output signal that is representative of the sensed output level is generated. The actual drive point of the driving input 31 of the generator 22 is controlled based on the digital output signal, such that the output level of the programmable output 24 is controlled. Then, the actual drive point corresponding to the requested output level is stored.
