PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the communication charge for transmission/reception of an electronic mail for acknowledgment in an MDN system conforming to RFC 2298, with respect to an internet facsimile machine. SOLUTION: When depression of an acknowledgement request key provided in an operation display part 18 is detected through an operation acceptance part 12g, an acknowledgment request part 12c1 in an electronic mail transmission part 12c of an internet facsimile machine 1 on the transmission side which can transmit and receive facsimile information in a form of an electronic mail via the Internet by dial-up connection generates an electronic mail having a mail header with an acknowledgment request in the MDN system, which give an instruction that an electronic mail for acknowledgment indicating the occurrence of error should be transmitted to a designated destination, only in the case of the occurrence of error in processing related to facsimile information of a received electronic mail in Internet facsimile equipment on the reception side, and transmits this generated electronic mail through a transmission control part 12a.
