PURPOSE: A method for managing resources in a CDMA communication system is provided to immediately return the resources allocated for packet data service as a mobile station executes registration for "power down" together with a state identifier for packet data service. CONSTITUTION: In a state that a PPP session is maintained between a mobile station, of which the packet data service is in a dormant state, and a PDSN(Packet Data Serving Node)(S20), if the user turns off the power of the mobile station, the mobile station inserts a packet dormant indicator in a registration message and transmits the message to a BS(Base Station)/BSC(Base Station Controller)(S21). The BS/BSC informs an MSC of the mobile station's power down registration using a 3G-IOS location updating request message(S22). In response to the request message, the MSC executes a power down registration procedure for the mobile station and transmits a location updating accept message to the BS/BSC(S23). The BS/BSC transmits an A9-Update-A8 message to a PCF(Packet Control Function) in order to release PCF-PDSN resources as the registration message contains the packet dormant indicator. In response to the A9-update-A8 message, the PCF executes a release procedure for PCF-PDSN resources(S25). If the release procedure is completed, the PCF transmits an A9-Update-A8 Ack message to the BS/BSC(S26). |
