PURPOSE: A tuning method is provided to be capable of auditioning broadcastings of the same family successively by searching a transmit frequency of the same family broadcasting as a previously auditioned broadcasting and then tuning the searched transmit frequency. CONSTITUTION: In a tuning method, a tuner tunes 93.1MHz by a tuning signal, detects an intermediate frequency(IF) signal from the tuned frequency, and modulates the detected IF signal into an FM signal so as to output a stereo signal(300). A broadcasting signal is received according to the tuned frequency(302). The tuner generates a reception electric field detection signal of the received signal to provide the detection signal to a control part. The control part checks whether a level of the reception electric field detection signal is below a reception sensitivity(304). If the level is over the reception sensitivity, there is checked whether a frequency is changed by a user(306). If so, the procedure goes to the step(300). If not, the procedure goes to the step(302). If the level is below the reception sensitivity, the control part performs an automatic tuning(308). Whether a strong electric field is detected is judged(310). If the strong electric field is detected, the automatic tuning is stopped(312). A transmit region of a received frequency(fr), in which the strong electric field is detected is detected, is confirmed with reference to a table made in a memory(314). There is checked whether the received frequency(fr) is a frequency of the same family as a finally selected broadcasting station(Bp)(316). If so, the step(302) is performed in order to receive a broadcasting. If not, a transmit frequency is selected which is a frequency of the same broadcasting family as a previously received broadcasting(318). A tuning signal corresponding to the selected frequency is provided to the tuner so as to tune a new transmit frequency in the sep(300).
