PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of the paper blister or toner blister of coated paper without lowering the fixing speed of plain paper. SOLUTION: This fixing device is provided with a coated paper discriminating means (59+C) for discriminating whether a recording sheet S passing a fixing nip N is a coated paper having a coating layer M on the surface or not, a preheating means for preheating the temperature of the recording sheet S advancing into the fixing nip N to a temperature of >=60 deg.C when the coated paper discriminating means (59+C) discriminates that the recording sheet is the coated paper or a nip passage time control means (49+59+C) for controlling the passage time of the fixing nip N of the recording sheet S to >=80 msec. |
