The fuel cap (18) for a motor vehicle fuel pipe has a rear section (28), a sealing gasket (26) and a front section (32) which is mounted for rotation on the rear section. The front section is mounted on the fuel pipe to pull the rear section forward and compress the gasket. The front and rear sections are pulled together by springs (48) which are compressed when the cap is locked.
