PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set where a security function is improved and data transfer is free from restriction. SOLUTION: In the portable telephone set to and from which a remote controller for operating the portable telephone set is attachable or is detachable, the remote controller 2 has a key operation part having operation keys, a memory in which personal identification data of the user of the portable telephone set 1 can be registered, a communication part for communicating with the portable telephone set and a control circuit for reading the personal identification data from the memory and sending it to the communication part. The set 1 has a ROM 12 with the personal identification data of the user registered therein, a communication interface part 35 for communicating with the communication part of the remote controller, when the remote controller is connected and a CPU 10 for making various kinds of functions operable when the personal identification data of the user registered in the memory agree with the one registered in the ROM 12.
