PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a dead space of display area except those due to the end cooling of a spacer small, by welding a heater with resistance heating welding and eliminating the space for a spacer of the heater, without generating disconnection of a cathode wiring and an anode wiring, cracks in a substrate, exfoliation of the cathode, or the like. SOLUTION: A glass spacer 133 is mounted on a substrate 10 on which, a cathode wring 16, an anode wring 17, and an insulation layer 101 are formed, and a metal plate 131 is mounted on the spacer 133, and a linear part 141 of a filament is welded to the metal plate 133. When the filament is welded by resistance heating welding electrodes 181, 182 as the thickness of the spacer 133 is almost same with the thickness of the substrate 10, breakage of the anode wring, cracking of the base boards, or the like, are not generated. As the spacer 133 has both functions of a heater holder and a spacer, the conventional specific spacer is disused, and dead space is made small to that extent.
