PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal processing method and apparatus, with which discrimination accuracy of the signal can be enhanced, while reducing cost. SOLUTION: A power spectrum of the reference data used as the reference is generated. A three-dimensional histogram of the reference data is generated based on the power spectrum of the reference data. The power spectrum of the observation data used as the discrimination object is generated. The three- dimensional histogram of the observation data is generated, based on the power spectrum of observation data. A mean transinformation of the reference data and the observation data is formed, based on the histogram of the reference data and the histogram of the observation data. Then, a similarity of the reference data and observation data is determined by comparing the mean transinformation with the prescribed reference value.
