PURPOSE: A structure for preventing free movement of rotary switch for automobile is provided to prevent a knob from freely moving right and left while allowing to smoothly rotate. CONSTITUTION: Male detents(41), having streamlined protrusions(41a) protruding inward, are elastically installed on a joining part of a knob. A female detent(42), having a wavy surface, comprising caves(42a) and peaks(42b), formed successively thereon, is installed on a part of the housing facing the male detents. The male detents and the female detent support the knob in side direction to prevent the knob from freely moving right and left.
