A machining device, comprising a machining and/or conveyor device for machining and/or conveying workpieces (4) within and/or between the stages. At least one transversal bar is provided in order to hold and/or machine said workpieces (4), said bar being arranged in an approximately vertical position with respect to the converyor (T) of the workpieces (4) when in a rest position. The transversal bar (6) can be maintained on both ends (6a,6b) thereof by a lever arrangement (7) and spatially oriented. A length-compensating device (9) is disposed on at least one of the two ends (6a,6b) of the transversal bar, enabling the overall length of the transversal bar (6) between the two ends (6a,6b) thereof to be altered. The length-compensating device (9) has an an outer tubular element (12) mounted on one end (6b) of the transversal bar (6) on the lever arrangement and an inner element (10) which is displaceably mounted inside the outer tubular element (12). Said inner element is mounted on the other end (6a) of the transversal bar (6) on the other lever arrangement (7).
