Position identification system uses a position sensor moved along a positioning path, for providing signals at each point along the path corresponding to a defined position of the water flow switching arm. Timing device measures the time for movement of position sensor between 2 signal points, for comparison with a given time interval, for identification of switching arm position when movement direction of position sensor is known. An Independent claim for positioning a water flow switching arm using a position identification method is also included.
