An contact stud (1) has a shank (2), with an external thread (5), connected to a contact flange (3), with a tool engagement region (20), that is fastened to a workpiece with the aid of a welding portion (23) and a conical projection (9). A plastic cap nut (12) has a tool engagement region (19), a sealing flange (8) and an internal thread (6) and is screwed onto the stud so that a stud electrical contact face (4) for a contact shoe is protected by the sealing flange. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a cap nut; (b) an electrical contact stud system having a stud and a cap nut (c) and a method of fastening an electrical contact to a workpiece to be painted.
