A portable telephone (1a) comprises a lower case (10) with first end (10a) and s second end (10b), an upper case (20) with first end (20a) rotatably attached to the first case (10) and the second end (20b), and a monopole antenna (30) built in the first end (l0a) of the lower case (10). The second end (20b) of the upper case (20) is rotatable to approach the second end (10b) of the lower case (10) or to separate from the second end (10b) of the lower case (10). The portable telephone (1a) is used close to the user's head (100), with the second end (20b) of the upper case (20) separated from the second end (10b) of the lower case (10). The lower case (10) is arranged with respect to the upper case (20) so that the upper case (20) may interpose between the monopole antenna (30) and the head (100).
