This invention provides azo-metal complex dyes for a high-density optical disc recording medium having the following formula (I): wherein R1 reprents C1-8 alkoxyl, carboxy, C1-8 alkoxycarbonyl, or amide; R2, R3, R4 and R5 can be the same or not, which are hydrogen, C1-8 alkyl, C1-8 alkoxyl, carboxy, C1-8 alkoxycarbonyl; C1-6 alkylaminealkylenecarboxy, amide, nitro, trifluoro-methyl, sulfonic acid fluoride group, sulfonic acid group or halogen atom; X reprents carbon or nitrogen atom; and M reprents Mg+2, Mn+2, Co+2, Ni+2, Cu+2 or Zn+2, These azo-metal complex dyes whose spectra are capable of matching wavelength of 400 nm~700 nm visible light can be used as a high-density optical disc recording medium.
