PORTABLE COMPUTER AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING BRIGHTNESS OF LCD OF THE SAME

PURPOSE: A portable computer and a method for controlling the brightness of an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) of the same are provided to reduce power consumption by adjusting power provided to the LCD while a user does not use a system. CONSTITUTION: A computer body(10) is equipped with a plurality of hardware including a main board(20) and an input device mounted with a microcomputer(30). An LCD(60) can be folded/opened to the computer body(10). A battery(50) provides power to the computer body(10) and the LCD(60). The LCD(60) receives power from the battery(50) or an AC adapter. In addition, the LCD(60) outputs a signal inputted from the input device. The brightness of the LCD(60) is adjusted by controlling power provided to the LCD(60). The battery(50) is inserted into a casing. A keyboard controller(34) controls a keyboard(41). A power controller(37) controls power provided from the battery(50). A control unit(31) automatically controls the brightness of the LCD(60). A waiting time stored in the memory(32) is checked using a timer(33) in the microcomputer(30).
