A process for producing prenyl alcohol characterized by comprising constructing a recombinant by transferring an expression recombinant DNA or a DNA for genome integration, which contains prenyl diphosphate synthase gene or a variant gene thereof, into a host, culturing the resultant recombinant and then collecting prenyl alcohol from the culture medium thus obtained.
