Evaluating patterns in a motor vehicle's vibration (s(t)) identifies carriageway-related local conditions as the vehicle drives through the local conditions. This can be compared with the position listed in an electronic road map to produce an alignment of a vehicle's actual, navigated current position. Speed (V) and temperature (T) are taken into account as input values for a pattern comparison. An Independent claim is also included for a device for recognizing carriageway-related local conditions during the use of navigation systems by means of vibration sensors with sensor values computed to a vibratory pattern (/=Us(t)).
