PURPOSE: A method for driving a plasma display panel(PDP) using a variable sustain discharge and an apparatus thereof are provided, which assures a sufficient address time by varying a sustain discharge period. CONSTITUTION: The driving method drives the plasma display panel including a number of cells with a number of sub fields including an address period writing video data and a discharge sustain period sustaining a discharge. The sustain discharge is performed, after a frequency of the first sustain pulse supplied during a discharge sustain period of a sub field corresponding to at least one upper bit among the video data is set to be different from a frequency of the second sustain pulse supplied during a discharge sustain period of other sub fields. The frequency of the first sustain pulse is set as higher than the frequency of the second sustain pulse. |
