Processing scrap or waste material mixtures to reduce disposal volume

Processing materials or material mixtures, especially waste or scrap, comprises: (i) feeding the materials to an extruder in which they are conveyed and compressed; (ii) passing them through a transverse-operating cutting and/or shredding mechanism for final mixing; and (iii) forcing them through a system of die openings. The equipment for the process includes a compressing screw followed by a cutting and/or shredding system moving at a right angle to the screw and a die with openings. Also claimed is the use of such an equipment for reducing the volume of materials, especially scrap or waste, to less than half the original volume. Further claimed is an extruded pellet produced by the above equipment and process.
