The track and earth current reduction method uses a return line (3) which is coupled to the railway track (4) at given intervals, for providing track-return line loops (7), with controlled voltage sources (8) incorporated in the return line. The controlled voltage source for each track-return line loop is regulated by summation of the measured track currents at the edges of the track-return line loop.
