Toner, especially for digital imaging equipment, which contains dye(s) and/or colored pigment(s), contains component(s) undergoing an exothermic reaction and hence producing heat when irradiated and/or heated. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) A colored toner, especially of the above type and especially for digital imaging equipment, which contains dye(s) and/or colored pigment(s), synthetic resin(s) containing polymer(s), cationic colorant(s) absorbing visible and near infrared radiation and an anionic component; (2) A digital imaging process, in which a toner image transferred to a substrate is (partly) melted for fixing to a substrate by heating partly by supplying heat energy from an external source and partly by an exothermic reaction of component(s) of the toner.
