The gas to be compressed is put into rotary motion in a ring-like side channel (18A,B) of a pump chamber (8), by a rotor (4), which is driven by a drive unit (12). Gas is compressed simultaneously in several pump chamber sections, each with an intake socket (24) and a pressure socket (26). The rotor is born on an outer bearing (16) located on an outer side (14) away from the drive unit. The rotor rotates at a speed of more than 50m/s, and max. up to 200m/s.
