PURPOSE: A method for reducing the capacity of a memory in the decoder of a mobile communication base station is provided to reduce the load of a memory by half by making an identical value stored in the memory not twice but once, in the case of storing a backward state matrix value to implement the MAP(Maximum A Posteriori) of a turbo decode unit. CONSTITUTION: In the initial input of a turbo decoder, the turbo decoder stores backward state matrixes having an identical value in two memories(S11). Then the turbo decoder stores two identical backward state matrixes in one decoder memory at an input time of 'k', except the initial input(S13). Then the turbo decoder yields the backward state matrixes at 'k' using the backward state matrix values at 'k+1'(S15).
