The optical scanner uses a light source (28) and a photodetector (25) for providing a shadow image of the examined part, which is analyzed via an optoelectronic evaluation unit (13,14), for indicating the part condition. The light from the source is fed to a translucent body (8) having a recess (11) for reception of the examined part (17), with the light fed radially into the recess and received by the photodetector positioned at the center of the recess base.
