PURPOSE: A key phone system having an announcement function according to extension subscriber absence and a method for controlling the same are provided to enable callers to recognize extension subscriber absence without waiting for a long time, thereby improving the convenience of users and reducing loss of telecommunication lines. CONSTITUTION: A main processor is in an initial state(S1). The main processor performs a telephone exchange function(S2). It is determined whether a hook signal is inputted from the called extension subscriber(S3). If inputted, the main processor performs a telephone call function(S4). If not inputted, the main processor starts counting for whether the extension subscriber inputs the hook signal(S5). It is determined whether the called extension subscriber replies within the currently set time(S6). If the set time passes, the main processor transmits announcement message looking for the corresponding extension subscriber to the outside through a broadcasting system and starts counting for confirming response(S7). It is determined whether the extension subscriber inputs a response signal within the set time(S8). If the set time passes, the main processor transmits a message notifying extension subscriber absence to a caller(S9). It is determined whether the caller leaves a voice message for the extension subscriber(S10). The voice message of the caller is saved at a memory(S11).
