PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a locus a grooves such that small bends are not generated for a tape coated optical fiber, housed in the groove of a rod within an SZ groove. SOLUTION: As the locus of the grooves of a rod with an SZ groove, a graphic which expands the locus on a plane becomes a curved line (2'A) obtained by superposing a sine curve (2B), having the double period L of an inverting pitch P, and a sine curve (2'C) having one third of the period and ratios of 1 to 30%. The shape in the vicinity of the inverting part of the locus of the groove is smoothed, so that restraints on the movement of the housed tape coated optical fiber can be reduced, and the small bendings of the tape coated optical fiber caused by the restricted movement can be prevented. Thus, an SZ slot type optical cable, having proper transmission loss characteristics, is obtained.
