PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder in which a recording head and a driven roller can be adjusted easily and uniquely. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder comprises means 200A for switching the paper gap by moving a recording head 100, means 200B for adjusting a pressing force against a recording medium by applying a pressure to a driven roller 202 or releasing a pressure therefrom, and means 200C for driving two systems of the paper gap switching means and the pressing force adjusting means through a series of operations. Since switching of a paper gap and adjusting of a pressing force can be performed through operation only of the driving means, they can be performed correctly and smoothly and convenience of a user can be enhanced.
