摘要 PURPOSE: A method of fabricating a fringe field switching liquid crystal display is provided to maximize electric field applied to liquid crystal by forming a counter electrode having an uneven shape so as to improve response speed of the liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION: Upper and lower transparent insulating substrates(23,11) are prepared. A gate metal layer(13) is formed on the lower transparent insulating substrate and, simultaneously, a plurality of step-forming layer patterns(14) are formed on a region where a counter electrode will be formed. The counter electrode(15) is formed on the plurality of step-forming layer patterns. A gate insulating layer(17) is formed on the substrate including the gate and the counter electrode. A passivation layer(19) is formed on the gate insulating layer. A pixel electrode(21) is formed on the passivation layer. Liquid crystal cells are arranged between the upper and lower substrates. The step-forming layer patterns are formed of the material of the gate metal layer. Each step-forming layer pattern has the thickness of less than 1 micrometer and the width of less than 10 micrometers.
