PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for releasing a gas from a rising pipe of a coke oven, which can remarkably reduce the release of an un-burnt gas into the atmosphere in comparison with conventional methods in consideration of the recent environmental problems of the atmosphere, and to provide a device for releasing the gas. SOLUTION: In the end time of coal carbonization in a coal oven, the lid 6 of the rising pipe 3 of the coke oven is opened to release the coal gas by- produced in a carbonization chamber into the atmosphere, Therein, a supporting gas 10 is supplied to the released gas above or in the tip of the rising pipe, thus releasing the released gas as a rotational flow into the atmosphere with the supporting gas.
