PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of an asymmetric cyanine coloring matter in a high purity, and a condensation agent permitting the method. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of an asymmetric indolenine-based cyanine coloring matter comprises obtaining a condensation agent comprising a reaction product (A-1) of 0.5-1.5 moles of p-nitroaniline with 1 mole of mucochloric acid, and reacting 1 gram of 1-butyl-2,3,3-trimethyl-4,5- benzoindolenine hexafluorophosphate quaternary salt with an equimolar amount, based on the quaternary salt, of a quaternary salt of indolenine and 1 gram of the condensation agent, and further with a quaternary salt of indolenine other than the quaternary salt of the indolenine. There is also provided a condensation agent for a methine chain.
