PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a side knock type mechanical pencil wherein the inner surface of a cap and the outer surface of a holding member are very near to each other, that the reduced-diameter part of the cap collides with the fore end of the holding member or rubs the surface of the holding member, while it moves, on the occasion of fitting the cap on a holder tube, according to this structure, and consequently the fore end portion of the holding member is impaired, or the surface is flawed, and thus the outward appearance is deteriorated considerably. SOLUTION: In the side knock type mechanical pencil wherein a knock dowel is provided on the front wall of the holder tube and the cap is fitted removably to the front of the holder tube, the fitting part of the cap and the holder tube is positioned in the front part of the knock dowel.
