APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR MOVING IMAGE RECEIVING BODY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for moving an image receiving body in alignment with a movable image bearing member in an aligning mechanism. SOLUTION: The inventive apparatus and method take into account of an image receiving body arriving at an aligning mechanism derailing a normal operable time band. When the image receiving body arrives too late, it is accelerated for a time sufficient to compensate for the delay at least up to the speed of a movable image bearing member. The image receiving body is then decelerated down to a speed substantially equal to the speed of the image bearing member. When the image receiving body arrives too early, it is stopped for a time sufficient to compensate for early arrival. Subsequently, the image receiving body is accelerated up to the speed of the image bearing member.
