摘要 A method and a video monitor (347;447;547) are disclosed including means for receiving video signals, including colour, HSYNC and VSYNC signals, from a host computer, the video monitor comprising, detector means (339;451;551) for detecting power management signals sent by the host computer. Power level control means are coupled to the detector means (339;451;551) for removing power from power-using circuits in the video monitor (347;447;547) in response to the detector means detecting a power management signal. The detector means (339; 451; 551) is configured for selectively detecting any one of at least first, second and third power management signals provided in at least one of the colour, HSYNC and VSYNC signals, and the power level control means is adapted to selectively remove power from said power using circuits of the monitor to reduce power usage of the video monitor (347; 447; 547) to at least first and second reduced power levels in response to detection of said first and second power management signals, and wherein said third power management signal is a resumption signal and said control means is adapted to restore power to the power using circuits of the monitor to restore the power level to an original power state commensurate with normal operation in response to said resumption signal. <IMAGE>
