摘要 PURPOSE: A vertical alignment mode liquid crystal display is provided to form the first counter electrode on a lower substrate before formation of a pixel electrode and form the second counter electrode on an upper substrate to construct a multi-domain. CONSTITUTION: Upper and lower substrates(50,30) face each other, having a liquid crystal layer(60) between the two substrates. Gate bus lines and data bus lines are arranged on the lower substrate in a matrix form, to define unit pixels. The first counter electrode is formed at each of the unit pixels and receives a common signal. A pixel electrode is formed on the inner side of the lower substrate. The pixel electrode is formed in a stripe shape having a slit. The second counter electrode is formed on the inner side of the upper substrate and forms electric field for driving liquid crystal molecules together with the pixel electrode. The first vertical alignment(43a) film is interposed between the pixel electrode and the liquid crystal layer. The second vertical alignment film(43b) is placed between the second counter electrode and the liquid crystal layer. The first polarizer(45b) is placed on the outer side of the upper substrate and has a predetermined polarizing axis. The second polarizer(45a) is arranged on the outer side of the lower substrate and a polarizing axis perpendicular to the polarizing axis of the first polarizer.
