PURPOSE: A device and a method for controlling hydraulic pressure of an automatic transmission are provided to improve a transmission feeling and secure rapid response at the time of transmission by changing a pressure control way into a completely independent pressure control way. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling hydraulic pressure of an automatic transmission includes a flow channel converting part and a pressure controlling part. The flow channel converting part has a high/low valve(40) for reducing line pressure, a servo release feed valve(50) for releasing connection of a kick down band brake, a switch valve(60) for connecting a low/reverse brake by supplying line pressure to the low/reverse brake, a fail safe valve(70) for preventing supply of operating pressure to a friction element causing interlock of the transmission, and a transmission control solenoid valve for supplying operating pressure to the corresponding friction element. The pressure controlling part has an NR control valve(80) for supplying operating pressure to the low/reverse brake in an R range, first, second and third pressure control valves(90,100,110).
