PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb body capable of being well bonded to an outer cylinder when the honeycomb body of which the cells have a hexagonal shape is formed by laminating corrugated metal foils of which the corrugations have a trapezoidal shape to be bonded to the outer cylinder and capable of developing sufficient cleaning capacity without wasting a wash coat solution or a noble metal, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The metal honeycomb body 1 is obtained by laminating the corrugated metal foils 4 of which the corrugations have a trapezoidal shape and the outer shape of the laminated metal honeycomb body almost has the outer shape of a metal carrier and, in a part or the whole in the peripheral direction of the honeycomb body, the end part 6 in the length direction of the layer selected from the laminated corrugated metal foils 4 forms an end part (free end part 7) having no hexagonal joined part along with the adjacent metal foil and the length of the free end part 7 is a 1/4 pitch of corrugations or more and the respective free and parts of the metal foils are bonded to the outer cylinder 2. |
