PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seal roll holding pressure controlling method capable of excellently maintaining the sealability by a seal roll without impairing meandering correction to be performed by a steering roll. SOLUTION: In a continuous strip treatment furnace comprising the steering roll and the seal roll, the meandering quantity of a traveling strip is detected, and when the detected value W of the meandering quantity exceeds the predetermined thresholdβ, the strip holding pressure F by the seal roll is switched from the preset holding pressure F0 to the predetermined lower holding pressure FL. When the furnace pressure is not higher than the allowable lower limit after the switching, the holding pressure F is returned to the preset holding F0. Then, when the furnace pressure is increased and exceeds the allowable lower limit, the holding pressure F is switched to the lower holding pressure FL. This increasing/decreasing operation of the holding pressure F is repeated until the detected value W of the meandering quantity comes to a level not higher than the thresholdβ, and when the detected value W of the meandering quantity comes to the level, the holding pressure F is returned to the preset holding pressure F0.
