PURPOSE: A method for controlling the idle of an engine is provided to perform the learning of the idle according to the temperature of a coolant, engine rpm and intake pressure in an idle learning section, and to calculate an idle learning value by applying a weight factor except the idle learning section. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling the idle of an engine comprises the steps of: initializing all variables if power is supplied to a vehicle; determining whether the learning condition of the idle is satisfied if the engine is started; compensating and learning the amount of air according to the variation of engine rpm; and compensating the amount of the air according to the temperature of a coolant and controlling the idle.
