PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a centrifugal thin-film dryer, capable of maintaining the water content of a drying sludge at a target value or lower, and preventing an overload trip of a drive motor. SOLUTION: A spindle 2, having a plurality of blades 4, is arranged rotatably in a cylindrical heat transfer cylinder 1. The spindle 2 is driven by a drive motor 7, and the rotational speed of the motor 7 is regulated by a rotational speed regulating mechanism 23. A controller 23 controls the mechanism 23, when a current detected value from a current detector 21 is a current stipulated value or less, corresponding to a target value of the water content of the sludge for increasing the speed of the motor 7. If the detected value is a current abnormal value or over, corresponding to that at a fault behavior time of the entire dryer, the controller 22 makes the speed of the motor 7 reduced by conrolling the mechanism 23.
