PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for preparing a polyimide composite having an excellent heat resistance, mechanical properties, gas barrier property, dimensional stability, etc. SOLUTION: The process for preparing a polyimide composite comprises a step wherein a diamine component which is the raw material monomer of the polyimide is polymerized with an acid anhydride component in an organic solvent in the presence of an intercalation compound wherein the diamine which is the raw material monomer of the polyimide and an organic onium ion are intercalated within a layered clay mineral to obtain a polyamic acid solution wherein the intercalation compound is dispersed, and a step wherein this polyamic acid is imidized to obtain a polyimide composite.
