PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization converting element capable of producing a projection liquid crystal display, having high cooling power and exhibiting a stable display quality over a long time. SOLUTION: A phase contrast plate 22 comprising a resin, having >=120 deg.C for glass transition temperature, is stacked on a transparent sapphire glass plate 21 and a linear polarization plate 23 is stacked on the surface of the phase contrast plate 22 opposite to the sapphire glass plate, to provide the objective polarization converting element 20, having >=80 deg. for surface contact angle on the exposed surface 26 of the linear polarization plate 23. This polarization converting element 20 is disposed on at least one face of a liquid crystal cell, in such a way that the linear polarization plate 23 confronts the liquid crystal cell to obtain the objective projective liquid crystal display. |
