PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a metallic silicon in a high yield at a low cost. SOLUTION: The method of producing the metallic silicon comprises melting a silicon dioxide-containing glass and a metal aluminum by heating them to a temperature of 1450 deg.C or higher, and thus reducing silicon dioxide so as to generate the metallic silicon. A hot cullet wasted in production process of glass products as glass and a used aluminum can be used.
