PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outer coating layer of double coated optical fibers which improves the microbending loss. SOLUTION: The coating layer is improved by the addition of very small clay platelets. The clay platelets are aligned along the axis direction of optical fibers. The clay platelets are small enough to be essentially transparent to the UV curing radiation.
