PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing an alkylhalobenzene derivative by using an inexpensive raw material under mild reaction conditions in a high selectivity in a high yield. SOLUTION: This alkylhalobenzene derivative is represented by general formula (3) (R1 is a 1-6C alkyl group which may be substituted; Y is an electron attractive group W is a halogen). This method for producing the alkylhalobenzene derivative is characterized in that a cyclohexenone derivative represented by general formula (1) (R1 is as described above) is reacted with a halogenating agent to give a halocyclohexadiene derivative represented by general formula (2A) and/or (2B) (R1, W and Y are as described above) and dehydrogenating the halocyclohexadiene derivative.
