PURPOSE: An upright type vacuum cleaner is provided to extend a life time of a battery by providing an exhaust guide member for guiding a part of exhaust air drained from an intake pump into a battery area in order to restrain a temperature rise of the battery. CONSTITUTION: An upright vacuum cleaner comprises a body casing having a spacing therein, an intake head(21), an intake pump(31), a filter member(33) and a filter casing(35), a battery(37), and an exhaust guide member(39). The intake head is connected at a lower portion of the body casing. The intake pump is installed at an upper portion of the body casing, and the filter member and the filter casing are placed at an intake area of the intake pump. The battery is contained at an inside of the body casing, and supplies an electric power to electric parts, such as the intake pump. One end of the exhaust guide member is connected at the exhaust side of the intake pump, and guides at least a part of the exhaust air drained from the intake pump.
