PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing OH- or SO3H-introduced fullerene such as fullerenol suitable for a proton conductor, or its derivative, also a new and useful proton conductor obtained by the above method, and also an electrochemical device using the above proton conductor such as a fuel cell, etc. SOLUTION: This method for producing the fullerene derivative is provided by using a halogenated fullerene obtained by halogenating the fullerene molecules, as a precursor and introducing a proton-dissociating group on the carbon atom constituting the fullerene molecule. The method for producing a polymerized fullerene derivative is provided by reacting more than one fullerene derivatives with an aromatic compound and bonding the fullerene derivatives each other through the aromatic group of the aromatic compound. The fullerene derivatives obtained by these production methods function as the proton conductor, and the electrochemical devices using such proton- conducing materials such as the fuel cell, etc., can realize small size and simplification of them without being restricted by the atmosphere. |
