METHOD AND PLANT FOR PRODUCING METHANOL USING BIOMASS FEEDSTOCK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing methanol by the use of a biomass feedstock and a plant therefor capable of effectively using carbon monoxide formed without lowering methanol production efficiency. SOLUTION: This method for producing methanol comprises gasifying a biomass feedstock 1 and producing the methanol 8 from the resultant gas 2 formed; wherein water 3 is electrolyzed with an electrolytic equipment 24 by the electric power generated by a solar power generating unit 29 and/or a wind power generating unit 30 and the hydrogen gas 5 produced by the electrolysis of the water 3 is fed to the gas 2 to that the quantity of the hydrogen in the gas 2 is at least double that of the carbon monoxide in the gas 2, thus producing the methanol 8 with a methanol synthesis column 19.
